Daniel Island, located in Berkeley County, was always a vacant land and marsh for many decades. In the early 1990’s a developer decided to develop this island into the jewel that it is today. They just needed an exit off of the I-526 interstate. The city of Charleston embraced this idea and built the ramps off the interstate with one condition. That the Property Tax revenue would go to the City of Charleston, despite the fact that it was not located in the City or county of Charleston.
The building began. The downtown and Office buildings as well as schools, Tennis & Soccer arenas were built. Blackbaud’s world headquarters are located here and have the Blackbaud stadium name for it. Each year the Manchester England Soccer Team plays a match here and there is a huge attendance for this and many other events held here. The Family Circle Cup woman’s Tennis event is held every April with the best woman’s tennis players as our guests.
This community of Daniel Island was planned and well executed in the early 1990’s. There is a golf course and community, a Marina is scheduled to be built here soon. The housing is beautiful and charming, as that to replicate the downtown residential district of Historic Downtown Charleston, SC. Smaller building lots for some Daniel Island neighborhoods, always sidewalks and parks to gather and play. There are still many desireable building lots with deep water access to the rivers that surround this modern Island.
